- The program has faculty with extensive experience in the direction of doctoral theses.
- The completion of theses in co-supervision with other foreign universities and the international mention in the doctoral degree with the participation of international experts will be favored. At present, most of the theses are carried out with an international mention.
- The Academic Committee will consider multiple supervision, in cases of thematic interdisciplinarity or doctoral programs developed in national or international collaboration.
Once admitted to the doctoral program, the Academic Committee will assign each doctoral student a tutor, a doctor with accredited research experience, linked to the program, who will be responsible for ensuring the interaction of the doctoral student with the Academic Committee. The Academic Committee, having heard the doctoral student, may modify the appointment if there are justified reasons.
Once enrolled in the program, a Personalized Activities Document will be created for each student for the purposes of the individualized control record referred to in article 2.5 of RD 99/2011. All the activities of interest for the development of the doctoral student will be registered in it, regularly reviewed by the tutor and the thesis supervisor and evaluated by the Academic Committee.
Within a maximum period of six months from their enrollment, the Academic Committee will assign each doctoral student a doctoral thesis supervisor, who may or may not coincide with the tutor referred to in the previous section. This assignment may be made by any Spanish or foreign doctor, with accredited research experience, regardless of the university, center or institution in which he/she renders his/her services. The Academic Committee, having heard the doctoral candidate, may modify the appointment whenever there are justified reasons.
- The director of the doctoral thesis will be responsible for the coherence and suitability of the training activities, the impact and novelty of the subject matter of the doctoral thesis in his/her field, and for guiding the planning and adaptation, if necessary, to that of other projects and activities in which the doctoral student is enrolled.
- The thesis may be co-directed by other doctors when there are reasons of an academic nature, such as thematic interdisciplinarity or programs developed in national or international collaboration, with the prior authorization of the Academic Committee.
Each year the student will elaborate the Research Plan that will include at least the methodology to be used and the objectives to be achieved, as well as the means and time planning to achieve it.
- This plan may be improved and detailed throughout their stay in the program and must be endorsed by the tutor and the director.
- Annually, the academic committee of the program will evaluate the research plan and the document of activities together with the reports to be issued by the tutor and the director.
- A positive evaluation will be a prerequisite for continuing in the program.
- In case of negative evaluation, which will be duly motivated, the doctoral student must be re-evaluated within six months, for which purpose a new research plan must be prepared.
- In the event of a new negative evaluation, the doctoral student will be definitively withdrawn from the program.
- In case of conflict, the affected parties will submit to the decision adopted by the bodies provided for in the regulations of the university in which the student is enrolled.
Once admitted to the doctoral program, the Doctoral Student Activity Document (DAD) will be opened, whose design will follow the model established in the UVa thesis submission regulations and whose support will be electronic, in order to obtain the necessary reports and certifications.
- Each and every one of the training activities carried out by the doctoral student within the program will be recorded in the DAD. Different levels of access to the DAD (by means of a key and password) will be granted to the doctoral student, the tutor, the thesis director and the program coordinator.
- Thus, the tutor/director will authorize the realization of the activity and for this purpose will incorporate his/her authorization signature. The doctoral student, once the activity has been carried out, will incorporate the corresponding proof of the activity and the tutor and/or director will verify the activity.
- Finally, the tutor and/or thesis director will include the annual reports of the doctoral student's activities and the program coordinator will include the annual evaluations.
